Davis Finishes Sixth At World Junior Championships

July 13, 2008

Rising sophomore jumper Austin Davis represented the United States at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland over the weekend and finished sixth in the world in the triple jump with a leap of 51-9 1/4. Davis claimed the triple jump championship at the USA Junior Championships at the end of June to earn his trip to Poland thanks to a personal best jump of 52-8 in the final.

Davis finished fourth in his group during the qualifying round as he cleared 51-8 1/4 to punch his ticket for the final. The Durham, N.C. native equaled his qualifying effort with his opening jump of the final before clearing 51-6 1/4 before fouling on his third attempt. Davis then tallied a mark of 51-1 1/2 on his fourth jump and then fouled on his fifth attempt before tallying a jump 51-9 1/4 on his sixth and final attempt to place him sixth overall.

France's Teddy Tamgho claimed the triple jump championship with a top mark of 56-10 1/4.
